Today's Birds

I walked Parvin State Park this morning. I was there by 6:30 and stayed for a couple of hours.

I walked from Fisherman's Landing along the Green Trail around to where some of the cabins are.

I heard lots of Pewees, a couple Ovenbirds, some Pine Warblers and lots of Wood Thrushes. A couple of Wood Thrushes kept zooming around past me, one chasing the other. It was so comical. Singing while flying.

Goldfinches were singing. And bluebirds are nesting in the Purple Martin box in the second grove past Fisherman's Landing on the way to the beach. I watched papa catch some breakfast and bring it back to the nest.

By the "swallow" bridge, numerous Barn Swallows were catching flies. No Tree Swallows were seen. I think I may have spotted a Rough-winged, but not too certain about that.

On Featherbed Lane, near the creek, a Great Blue Heron cronked at me and then flew off. I guess I interrupted his hunting time.

A kingbird was on the wires, a Red-eyed Vireo was singing and Red-winged Blackbirds were plentiful. No sign of the tern. More pewees though.

Bobolinks were singing in the meadow and keeping themselves hid in the grass. Meadowlarks made brief showings. And a Red-tailed Hawk was being bombed by some blackbirds.

Nothing spectacular came to my yard today. But maybe this really scruffy looking Downy Woodpecker. And a Red-bellied Woodpecker that wouldn't shut up. Don't know what his problem was.
